How to keep your teeth healthy and strong

Brush your teeth for at least two minutes. You must do this in the morning and at night before going to bed.

●     Wait about 30 minutes after eating to brush your teeth. Once you finish eating, the acid produced by the food in the mouth makes the enamel soften. You can rinse your mouth with water immediately after eating. Then, you should wait about 30 minutes to brush your teeth.

●     Children should brush their baby teeth both to prevent cavities and to acquire good oral hygiene habits.

Protect your teeth against cavities using a toothpaste that contains fluoride. Fluoride strengthens the enamel of the teeth to make them less vulnerable to decay. Ideally, the toothpaste contains 1350 to 1500 ppm of fluoride. This amount is safe for children, as long as an adult supervises them while brushing to make sure they do not swallow it.

●     If you use a lower strength toothpaste for a young child, you should make sure it contains at least 1000 ppm fluoride. If the amount is lower, it will not be enough to prevent tooth decay.

  • If you use the thread before brushing, you will help the fluoride in the toothpaste to get between your teeth.

Use a mouthwash. You can reduce the amount of bacteria floating around your mouth using an antibacterial mouthwash or saline solution. If you use mouthwash, you should look for one that contains fluoride.

  • Dissolve the salt in a cup of warm water. As you put the salt in the water, you should try it to make sure it is not so salty and you can not hold it in your mouth.
  • Keep the mouthwash (or saline solution) in your mouth for about 2 minutes. You must move it around your mouth as much as you can until you cover all the areas of your teeth. Then, tilt your head back and gargle. Spit the oral content once you finish. Do not swallow it. Gargling is not likely to be appropriate for children who are too young, as they will not be able to do so safely and without drowning.

  • Do not press the scraper too hard, as it may cause pain or bleeding. You should observe a film of saliva and some residue on the scraper just by moving it gently. Go backwards.
  • Some toothbrushes come with tongue scrapers on the back. Find out if your brush model has a small rough pad.
